Tips & Inspiration,

Madison, WI — As September’s end draws near, a new challenge emerges: Inktober. Inktober, being right around the corner, is a challenge that engages artists to explore the medium of inking. Looking back at last year's challenge, I've learned a lot of things and picked up some tricks for staying on track.

2024 Inktober Review and Lessons Learned

Overall, this was my first Inktober art challenge that I participated in; I've tried/always wanted to try to participate. However, 2024 was the year I embraced the change and went for it, and with that, I was able to do all prompts without a miss.

Some of my favorite prompts would have to have been scarecrow, drive, exotic, and snacks. Being that I was able to explore fun and creative approaches, and also create new characters

Tips and Tricks for Completing Inktober 2025

Completing all 31 days of Inktober was a bit difficult, but having a rhythm and consistency really helped with following through with the challenge.

  • References: The biggest thing that really helped me through Inktober was references. Helping me get through creative blocks, which really come quickly during daily drawing prompts.
  • Don't Spend Too Much Time: Being quick about prompt completion is a must. It's not that I want you to rush, but more like don't spend 5-6 hours, especially if you're new. Spending too much also makes the whole month drag.
  • Planning: If you aren't able to do a prompt, do the prompt beforehand. Do the prompt beforehand or do multiple prompts in a day? This helps the creative ball rolling and also not to sweat about missing a day.
  • Schedule Posts: Something that gets overlooked is scheduling posts. In this digital age, if you aren't able to post your prompt on time, you can do it beforehand and schedule the post for later.
  • Lastly, have fun: The whole point of Inktober is to have fun and explore a different type of medium. Keep a light-hearted attitude; it really helps keep the creative flow and helps the month go fast.

Social Media Community Growth and Followers During Inktober

One of the last things that I actually expected was the growth of my social media presence, not a huge one, but nonetheless. For the most part, my lowest-engaged post was getting around 131 views, with the highest making 414. My lowest engagement was 31, and the highest was 201. Though not the point of growth and engagement, it was nice that it came out during Inktober.

Looking Forward to Inktober 2025

To be honest, the thing that I'm most excited about this year is participating in the Inktober art challenge. Last, I really enjoyed myself, and this year the prompts look like fun.

Final Thoughts

As this Inktober challenge draws near, I'm excited to push my creative skills and connect with more artists. If you are a bit hesitant or need a push to join the Inktober daily challenge, just go for it. Have fun with it and enjoy the creative process.
